The 6th Akon Lighting Africa Tour provided an opportunity for Akon, Samba Bathily and Thione Niang to observe on the ground the popularity of the initiative they launched 18 months ago.
The 3 successful entrepreneurs were actually able to appreciate the progress and the success of their projects in many African countries. The public call for tenders won in Benin is the best example of the trust granted by the public authorities to Akon Lighting Africa, as the project, soon to be achieved, covers 124 localities equipped with 1500 solar lamps and 2000 solar kits.
Public authorities and local populations were not the only ones to show a real interest in actions carried out by Akon, Samba Bathily and Thione Niang on the ground. In fact, important African and international media covered the event, and some newspapers such as BBC World, Vox Africa or afrik.com requested interviews of the project creators, and wanted to explain the ins and outs of the pan-African initiative to a wide audience.
